Laugh, and the world laughs with you

Introduction

I got this game in a humble bundle aaaages ago (2015) and never really touched it, but I saw it in my steam library recently and gave it a go. Playtime was about 2-3 hours.

Gameplay & Story

The plot is that the MC wants to form a comedy club & needs to recruit at least 3 out of 6 total members before the end of the month. It's pretty simple stuff, but I enjoyed the characters and their mini stories.

The localization was inspired by the Ace Attorney games localization, with stuff like punny character names & a westernized setting. (more info about the localization) There's also a lot of pop culture references, which might come off as a bit cringe sometimes, but imo that slight cringiness just adds to the charm.

Gameplay wise, it's a visual novel with some time-management/social link type stuff. You level up your conversation topics & raise affinity with each character by choosing their favourite topic. It sorta plays like a dating sim I guess. Nothing too difficult, but unless you're using a guide you'll probably only end up getting around 3-4 members.

Closing Thoughts

This game and its sequel got delisted from steam a while ago, the publishing company went under or something and noone else picked it up. If you want to check it out, I guess pirate it?

The soundtrack is pretty decent! Dormitory & Ennui are super chill tracks. have a listen!

While writing this I came across the official website promoting the game. It's in japanese, but it's got a bunch of stuff on it, character bios, some cute sketches of the characters, fanart. It's cool to see it's still up, I really love these types of websites. It's a shame they don't make them like this anymore.

Anyway, I think this game is alright. Neither the gameplay or story are anything really groundbreaking, but it was a fun little time capsule of 2010s otaku culture which I find kinda charming and nostalgic. If you're into this kinda stuff as well, maybe check it out!
